Audition Process

Every new singer who is interested in participating in BCC should schedule an audition with Mr. Tim. “Auditions” are simple and friendly - just 10 minutes for the director to determine what each new singer knows and to hear the tone and development of their voice.  They’ll be introduced to some simple vocal warm-ups that will help to determine their range and ability.  They may be asked to "echo sing" a simple melody, and then they will sing a prepared song.

Prepared Song

The only thing new singers will need to prepare for their audition is the attached excerpt from "Annie," the musical. They can look at the music/words attached and use the included recording to learn it. (It is very short!) The goal is to learn the excerpt well enough to sing it comfortably. To help them prepare, set a time to work on it. Let your singer study it a couple of times, and then invite them to sing it themselves. Encourage them to try to match what they see on the music or hear on the recording, and give them positive feedback. Expect about 20 minutes of preparation to be enough for them to feel ready to sing it themselves. No pressure, parents! We want this to be an easy and fun experience. There is no accompaniment - just their voice! Mr. Tim will help them get started, and there will be a printed copy of the music for them to use...Doesn't need to be memorized.

Placement

After the audition is complete, singers will be placed in one of two choirs depending on their grade level.

Rising 2nd-4th graders will be placed in CHERUB CHOIR. Cherub Choir will rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 5-6:00 PM

Rising 5th-12th graders will be placed in CANTATE CHOIR. Cantate Choir will rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:00 PM.

Cherub and Cantate Choir will combine for most performances.
